Consentable WT Ao stands out from other work desks with its unique features and design. It is specifically designed for PC users, offering various storage options to hide noisy wirings and devices. By concealing these items within its simple form, the desk creates a calm and organized workspace. The top plate, made of indigo-dyed wood grains, resembles the serene surface of the sea, further enhancing the desk's calming effect.
The production process of Consentable WT Ao involves traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The desk is made of wood dyed with Aizome, a traditional indigo dyeing technique. Skilled craftsmen meticulously hand-dye the wood multiple times to achieve the desired indigo color. The result is a glossy indigo finish that transforms the wood grains, resembling the tranquil surface of the sea.
With dimensions of 1150mm in width, 600mm in depth, and 700mm in height, Consentable WT Ao is a well-proportioned desk. The legs are made of solid black cherry, while the top plate is constructed from solid black cherry laminated plywood, both featuring the indigo dyeing finish. These materials not only provide durability but also add a touch of elegance to the overall design.
Consentable WT Ao offers several unique interaction features. The grooves on the backsides of the legs are designed to hide an OA tap code, allowing for a neat and organized workspace. Power cords and USB wirings can be neatly stored in the wiring space behind the top plate, protecting them from dust. The top plate also includes a device space linked to the wiring space, enabling users to neatly organize their devices and wirings while keeping them connected. Assembly is required for this desk.
The PC Work Desk project started in Tokyo in April 2014, with the initial model, Consentable WT, being exhibited at various design events. The final version, Consentable WT Ao, was completed in June 2020, with the finishing changed to indigo dye. This design project showcases the designer's dedication to improving the work experiences of PC users.
Takusei Kajitani's research for Consentable WT Ao focused on finding innovative solutions to hide wirings and devices within a simple form. The wiring space behind the top plate is specifically designed to accommodate OA taps connected to various outlets, such as PC adapters. The grooves on the legs allow for the embedding of cords, ensuring a clutter-free workspace. The desk's design aims to create a seamless and wire-free experience for users.
The main challenge faced during the design process was to improve the PC user experience on the desk at home. Consentable WT Ao successfully addresses this challenge by incorporating various small storage compartments to hide wirings and devices. The indigo-dyed finish on the top plate adds a calming element, providing a serene working environment for home PC users.
Consentable WT Ao has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. Consentable WT Ao stands as a testament to the fusion of art, science, design, and technology.
Consentable WT Ao is a testament to Takusei Kajitani's innovative approach to design. By reimagining the traditional work desk for the digital age, Consentable WT Ao offers a sophisticated and organized workspace for home PC users. With its unique features, indigo-dyed finish, and attention to detail, this PC work desk is a true masterpiece of art, design, and functionality.
